Brian Donnelly aka KAWS, is one of the most prominent and prolific artists of his generation. His body of work straddles the worlds of art, fashion and design. Admired for his larger-than-life sculptures and colour-filled paintings, KAWS’s cast of hybrid cartoon and human characters are drawn from pop-culture animations and form a distinctive artistic vocabulary.
In 2016, KAWS debuted a new character at the Central Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, a 26-foot tall, bright blue creature called BFF. Like KAWS’s signature “Companion” figures, BFF has crossed-out eyes, gloved hands, and oversized ears, but the BFF has a furry exterior, reminiscent of the woolly texture of Sesame Street’s Elmo. A year later KAWS designed a vinyl blue BFF in collaboration with the MoMA design store and since then, the family of BFFs has grown with the release of this vinyl standing BFF in black.
